Movie Summary
Miss Representation is a great portrayal of the social stereotypes that people go through in their day to day lives but never realize how much of an impact it is to their lives. It is clear that the media plays a great role in the objectification of women and although it does not occur as a great deal, the film explains how it affects the young people especially girls who end up clinging to the stereotype. There is a certain portrayal that the value of women lies in their youth, physical appearance, and their sexuality as visible in most instances on TV, magazines and other media (Newsom, 2011). Due to the high influence of the media, these young girls end up focusing on these aspects while neglecting other important potentials like leadership and career development. Boys, on the other hand, are shown to be dominant, aggressive and powerful which gives them the motivation to work towards success as well as their position as leaders.
