According to Louv, a big percentage of Americans (80%) stay in metropolitan areas. Most of these areas don’t have park spaces. Louv gives examples of how park areas are missing despite the big population of people living in urban areas.  One of the examples is the development of land in the watershed of Chesapeake Bay. It is estimated that in this area, one acre of land is developed in every ten minutes.  With that rate of development, more land is expected to be put in use in the coming twenty-five years, a rate that is bigger than that of the past three and half years.
