classmate’s response ( The Mesopotamian art demonstrates more purpose and intended function than the previous Paleolithic paintings. Because of this distinction, the subjects have immense detail and intricacy which allows them to be more identifiable. The Paleolithic artwork is more general and lacks the detail to identify specific subjects. The Mesopotamian artwork however not only shows details, but have specific titles that help identify the subject. For example, there are several pieces, like the Stele with the Law Code of Hammurabi that show things like jewelry and face detail. There is also a detailed reconfiguration of a Sumerian temple in Iraq, which shows a sense of intricacy and purpose that is also portrayed in the paintings of this time. This shows how this society is more civilized than those of the Paleolithic era. The Akkadian civilization, in particular, developed a stylistic way of portraying facial features. In Head of an Akkadian Ruler, the Beard is overly texturized and exaggerated. There are also stylistic exaggerations in the hair and eyes as well. Before the Akkadians, people had a more naturalistic look and this symbolic exaggeration is an important contribution to society. According to the Mesopotamia video, there are signs of mutilation that can have a political underlay. This is another contribution that sets the Akkadians apart. )
