MLK obviously meant something quite particular when he described “Black Power”–what I’d like you to consider is whether similar notions of empowerment are acceptable for other racial groups. Is Brown Power acceptable–is White Power–is Red Power, etc.? What are you thoughts on racial constructions of empowerment, generally?

When Martin Luther King Jr. mentioned Black Power and used it as a slogan during the Civil Rights Movement, he meant something particular. He meant that black people across the country had the power of achieving self-determination despite the racism and discrimination that was being experienced by members of the black community.
