This piece is relevant to our discussion on research problems in comparative politics. You must write one page with a minimum of two paragraphs. In the first paragraph (three to five sentences) summarize the main argument and discuss the evidence provided by Said. In the second paragraph (eight to ten sentences), you are to take a position. In the case that you oppose the argument, you must 1) criticize Said’s argument 2) lay out your counter argument and 3) provide supporting evidence for your case. In the case that you agree with Said’s argument you must 1)discuss a potential counter argument and 2) provide the potential evidence for the counter argument.
The deadline for submitting this assignment is 9/4/2018 at 11:59 pm. The assignment should be typed in 12pt/Times New Roman font, double-spaced with 1” margins on all sides. Submit it through the drop box on Black board.

Edward Said coins the term orientalism to highlight the way the people of the western cultures (Europe and the US) interpret and imagine the existing differences between themselves and people of the Middle East. According to Said, the western cultures have a pre-convinced notion of what kind of people live in the eastern cultures, what they believe or act, irrespective of the fact that many have never been there (Palestine Diary, 2012).
