Religion existed on the Tennessee frontier long before statehood. As the state continued to process, religion continued to thrive. Discuss the role of certain denominations in bringing their religious ideologies to colonial Tennessee. Discuss which denominations were the strongest and how they dealt with social issues from the Native Americans to the issue of slavery.

            Religion has been a predominant issue in Tennessee, at least since European penetration into that region. Notably, the Judaic-Christian religion is the dominant in Tennessee as highlighted by the large Christian churches and some Jewish congregations (Conkin, 2000).
