The JOBS Act

The JOBS Act

Corporate funding is mostly responsible for developing the recorded music trade and the trade in music products (instruments, recording gear, and accessories). Historically, these were the revenue cash cows of the business.

A thoughtful friend of yours argues that because venture capital and music crowdfunding were not around five years ago, it must be easier to work your way into the industry today. Is she right? Please post your replies for others to see.

The Jobs Act

From an assessment of the statement from my friend, it is true that venture capital and music crowdfunding were not around five years ago. Crowdfunding allows artists who do not have the necessary capital to record their music to access such funds with ease. Crowdfunding is a form of venture where members of the public contribute small amounts towards the accomplishment of a given target (Dresner, 2016). An example is Go Fund Me organization. The platform allows people to raise money thereby enabling musicians to raise funds to record music records and sign into various labels of their choosing.
