ASSIGNMENT OVERVIEW
You will write a formal report focusing on a nonprofit charitable organization (NPO). You will provide an in-depth report on this organization, including its purpose, background, and involvement in recent issues. You will discuss the story or stories the NPO uses to share its cause and mission and conclude with a recommendation for the organization.
OBJECTIVES
Your objectives are to engage in primary and secondary research using UToledo’s database resources and the internet, to evaluate how well an organization’s storytelling supports its purpose and mission, and to incorporate formal report and APA citation elements in a finished document.
TONE
Your report should be written in a professional and formal tone. Write in third person (no “you” and be cautious with “I”—avoid “I think” and similar). See listed resources in Weekly Content and Calendar. Avoid highly technical language and provide definitions for jargon if necessary. Note that not ALL terminology needs to be defined; there are many examples of “jargon” being commonplace.
FORMAT
Except for the in-text citations and References page, your final paper will not be in a standard APA academic format (for example, not double-spaced); it will be a document suitable for a professional or business environment. See formal reports in The Business Writer’s Handbook (BWH). It will be 11+ pages long.
