“The scope of practice sets out the procedures, actions, and processes that the registered or licensed professional is allowed to perform. The individual practitioner’s scope of practices is determined by, a range of factors that gives them the authority to perform a particular role or task”. The scope of practice allows a nurse use her critical thinking and nursing intervention safely for the patient and it helps to protect from legal issues of their actions. In other words, nurses are responsible and accountable for their actions. There is always have changed in the scope of practice and may differ from the country and the province/ states. For example, in Canada, some province already expanded (British Columbia) the scope of practice of RN to administer schedule II and schedule III drugs without a physician order. (Sublingual nitroglycerine and Tylenol) Also, can administer schedule I drug without an order of physician in emergency situations. At the same time, it is under review for other provinces. It is recognition of nurse’s capability, but they have to remember the accountability of their actions.

The person must be registered to practice in the jurisdiction in which he or she desires to work.
