Initial Post Instructions
Using the Supreme Court’s website, research one case that deals with a contentious issue of your choice. (These issues can be racial discrimination, right to bear arms, same-sex marriage, hate speech, suicide, etc.) After finding a case, describe the Constitutional issue at the heart of the case. Summarize the points, the opinion, and at least one dissent used to come up with their conclusions. Did you agree with the majority opinion or the dissent?

Constitution Issues: The Second Amendment

The case presented to  the US Supreme Court in District of Columbia v, Heller was a contention against state policies that tended to violate individual 2nd Amendment rights. Most of the issues surrounding gun control in the country have revolved around the Second Amendment (Blocher & Miller, 2016).One of such policies in the District of Columbia was the regulation of gun licensing. According to the policy in the district, individuals were prohibited from carrying unlicensed firearms, but could get one-year licenses that could allow for gun ownership.
