Details: Task 7

In this week’s Task you will explore attitudes and attitude change.

In addition to exploring attitudes and attitude change, you will also write the rough draft of your final project.

Read Social Cognition and Attitudes

Read “Test Yourself for Hidden Bias”

The Implicit Association Test (IAT) is an online test that measures attitudes and beliefs that one may not be willing to admit to. It was developed by Project Implicit at Harvard University.
Take the Implicit Association Tests on Race and Gender. These tests are not graded, but they will both offer beneficial readings on hidden biases at their conclusions. (Permission for use granted by IAT on 6/21/18)

Watch

Play Video

Make a list of 2-3 negative stereotypes or prejudices you possess about your own race and gender, the opposite sex, and a race other than your own.

Think about how any of your values, religious beliefs, or morals conflict with those negative attitudes.

On a Word document answer the following questions:

1. What connections can you make between the articles, video, and tests?

2. What do they teach you about your own attitudes, biases, and stereotypes? How do you feel about this?

3. How will you resolve the conflict (cognitive dissonance) between your attitudes and your morals and values?

1. Upload your responses to the three questions in Step 4 to Moodle. This piece of the Task is worth up to 50 points.

2. On a separate Word document, upload the rough draft of your final project paper. See the assignment sheet for requirements. This piece of the Task is worth up to 50 points.

Upload both Word documents to Moodle.
