High Design vs. Popular Styling
The United States economic conditions stand in significant contrast between the Second World War period. While the period before the war was one in which the country experienced significant economic strife, the post-war period was characterized by a significant improvement in the economic conditions. One of the most influential sectors throughout the two periods lay in design processes, with some of the designers of the pre-war American society playing a critical role in advancing the American position during the war. In particular, Jeffrey Meikle makes the argument that the designers at the time experienced so much success due to their contribution to innovation, that the Museum of Modern Arts (MoMA) significantly recognized their work in various art galleries.
