The scientific study of the Terra prata has been a result of findings that the soil have a very high level of productivity, the discovery of human activity on the soil, and the necessity to meet the demand for food in a rapidly changing world. The impacts of environmental change are clear to the contemporary society, and one of such implications has been a reduction in soil productivity. Consequently, scientists have been in a race against time, attempting to determine possible intervention measures that could appropriately provide an opportunity for improvement in soil productivity. The Amazonian Dark Earth provides such solutions following the discovery that the soil may have experienced some form of human influence, and is not simply a marvel of nature.
