The International Drug War

One of the primary reasons for the government’s active involvement in the war against drugs is the implications of the use on society. Dependence leads to an increase in vice, among the users and people that supply the drugs. The users will often get too dependent to the extent that they can no longer hold active employment, but need the money to purchase the drugs (McCollister, French, & Fang, 2010). Ultimately, this creates a social problem due to an increase in crime as the drug users engage in activities that could help them gain some income for purchase of the drugs. On the other hand, the drug peddlers are often involved in turf wars, as they seek the control of the drug trade in the various regions.
