Introduction

The video for this assignment is another part of the series We Shall Remain. This particular episode deals with the Apache Indians, who lived in the Southwest (Arizona and New Mexico) during the 1880s and 1890s. I encourage you to turn up the parts where the Apaches talk. It’s amazing to hear their language.

7— Describe the violence that Geronimo inflicted upon the population he encountered on his retreat from the reservation (min. 54-56). In your opinion, was this violence justified?

8—Describe Geronimo’s last flight from the U.S. Army. What odds did he and his small group of allies face? What do you think their goals were? How did Geronimo’s resistance become symbolic? (min. 59-104) Feel free to add any thoughts you have about the documentary.

9- What happened to the Apaches in Florida and after Florida? In your opinion, was this genocide? Explain your opinion (min. 103-110)

10—How did most Apaches view Geronimo? Is this surprising to you? Explain why this is unsurprising or surprising. (min. 112-117)
