Prompt: Arrange a personal interview with an elected state or local official. The interview should address topics you have studied through this course as it relates to the position occupied by the governmental official. This assignment is completed and submitted in parts over several units. See Units 3, 4, and 5 for partial submissions related to this project. A complete, final written report must be submitted in Unit 7. Be sure your interview process and paper address all the requirements set forth below.
Requirements: Your final paper must address the items described above and also meet the following requirements:
APA compliant with title page and references page; The body of the paper should be 8-10 pages (not counting the title page and references page) and double-spaced. The paper should address:
Introduction — Identify the date of interview, the government official interviewed, the position, and a brief explanation of why this individual/position was chosen.
Background information from Unit 4 — A summary of the background information learned about the individual and position in preparation for the interview.
Interview questions and answers from Unit 5 — A summary of the official’s answers to interview questions. This is not intended to just be a listing of every question with the accompanying answer. You are expected to analyze the responses and present a reasoned summary of the responses organized into broad topics.
Insights Learned — Describe at least three things you learned about government from this process, and explain how these insights will impact your view of government going forward.
Conclusion and Hindsight — Reflect on your project and briefly summarize your thoughts. Would you do additional things or do anything differently if you were doing this assignment again? Are there any additional questions you now have about government? What part(s) of government do you understand better as a result of this project?
