Introduction

The ultimate goal of nurses is to improve the safety of patients in hospitals which in one way or the other help to accelerate the healing process. It is paramount that the hospital environment may tend to be dangerous especially to patients if sound safety measures are not implemented. There is high possibility of patients acquiring infections if safety measures such as maintenance of hygiene and cleanliness are not observed. There are various safety measures that are known as 2018 patient safety goals that help the nurses and all the stakeholders in hospitals to enhance the safety of patients in hospitals (Pronovost, Watson, Goeschel, Hyzy & Berenholtz, 2016). They include the goal to reduce or minimize the risk of health care which entails reducing infections in hospitals, the safety goal to improve accuracy in identification of the patients served and the goal to improve safety through the use medications among others. This paper seeks to discuss the safety goal that aims to reduce the risk associated with infections in hospitals especially in the operating rooms. Lewin’s theory of change will help to analyze and describe the process of change aimed to improve ways to reduce the risk of health care in hospitals.
