how to make a professional portfolio

how to make a professional portfolio

Portfolios may take on different forms and contents, depending on their purposes, authors, and audiences. This exercise will help you think about your own purpose in constructing a professional portfolio. Please write the pieces of this assignment, and all portfolio assignments, with your individual goals and professional path in the early childhood field at its core.

You will design your professional portfolio based on the requirements of your degree program. You will write your portfolio for a real, professional audience that will read your portfolio to find out more about who you are as a professional, what you have accomplished in your field, and what you are equipped to take on in the next steps in your professional career.

For this assignment, you will draft three important pieces of a portfolio. Those three pieces are:

Portfolio Preface (100-250 words)
About the Author (100-250 words)
Teaching/Administrative Philosophy (100-250 words)
Chapters 1 and 2 of How to Develop a Professional Portfolio, 6th Ed. will help you to complete this exercise. Chapters 1 and 2 provide strategies for thinking about the “hows” and “whys” of professional portfolio design. Please refer to these chapters as you complete this assignment. Refer directly to the textbook, in your own writing, as needed.

Be sure to cite information appropriately using APA format.

Below you will find some questions to answer when drafting these three documents:

Portfolio Preface (100-250 words)
Why are you writing this portfolio?
Will go into the process of developing this portfolio?
How will you select pieces from your working portfolio to include in your professional portfolio?
Who is the audience for this portfolio?
About the Author (100-250 words)
What would you like your audience to know about you, the author?
What do you think this portfolio reflects about you?
What is the role of this portfolio in your personal and professional development?
Teaching / Administrative Philosophy (100-250 words)
Who are you as a teacher or administrator?
What is your vision for your field?
How does this portfolio illustrate that vision?
Your responses to the questions that correspond with each of the three required pieces of this assignment might be somewhat general or future-driven here and now, at the beginning of the course; however, this will change as the course unfolds. The point is to draft the beginnings of three very important documents while you are becoming more acquainted with the process of writing the professional portfolio. You will return to these documents to revise and add to them soon. Everything is a work-in-progress that will lead up to the final choices that you make to complete the professional portfolio that you will submit at the end of the course.
